Tips For Website Design
There are 101 different tips for website design that you will find on the internet.
Everyone has an opinion on the subject.
You have to do what you feel is the right theme you are trying to project.
Make sure you keep your audience in mind when designing your website.
We are not going to list everything you can think of.
Just a few golden nuggets to guide you along the way.
1. Speed should be your first consideration
Sounds like a boring design aspect, doesn’t it?
But you do not need to lose any visitors because you have a slow loading site.
2. Does your landing page represent your business?
Remember, when a visitor lands on your site they usually will take 3-5 seconds to determine if they want to go any further.
What are they looking at?
- Navigation (can you use thumbs and finger for mobile)
- Is Your Font The Right Size
- Does Your Site Look To Complected
- Are You Using The Right Images
- Is Your Site Mobilized
- Menu (is it over crowed)
- You Need A Great Headline
- Write Your Meta Description Giving An Overview of The Page
It looks like a lot but getting all of this right gets that potential customer scrolling your page.
if they feel comfortable, like what they can see, and your headline (and meta description) catches their eye they will continue with what they were searching for in the first place.
You got to get a lot right before anyone even lands on your site.
Yes, you have to be prepared.
The next time you visit a site watch what you are looking for.
Ask other people what they see in that first few seconds.
3. Choose 2-3 Colors That look good and that match your theme
You do not want to use too many colors.
They can become distractions. You want everything to blend in and be inviting.
4. Choose the correct fonts
Your fonts should match your theme.
Try to use fewer fonts. 2, 3, maybe 4 max. If you notice we only use 3 fonts.
- One For Our Main Content
- We Also Use A Different One For Our Headlines
- Our Menu Uses It’s Own Style To Stand Out
Be advised, too many fonts could slow your site down.
Use the right size font. If your audience is 50 year olds plus you may need a bigger font size.
Plus make sure you choose the right size for your different headlines h2, h3, h4, etc…
Like we said we use a bigger and different font for our menu to make it stand out.
We want folks to see that it is an easy site to navigate from.
5. Keep A Small Menu
Keep your menu simple. Most websites only need 4-7 tabs in the menu. That should be that maximum.
If you have more than what we recommend people start getting confused.
It starts to get over crowed. Keep it simple and easy to navigate.
Are you using a hamburger menu for mobile viewers?
Another little pointer is to use a back to the top button.
We like to also include on our site a sticky menu.
That way someone always has access to the menu even if they get lost.
But we also believe it also lowers your bounce.
It just people options when they are done with a certain page.
One other thing, most people know if you click on the logo of a site it will take you back to the home page.
So we have even seen sites that do not include a home page to save on menu space.
What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section.
6. Tap To Call Button
We highly recommend that you include a tap to call button.
Gone are the days of typing in numbers to dial a phone number.
Add a click to call button at the top of your site.
It will make it easier for customers to get a hold of you.
People on mobile devices want simplicity.
It just makes good business sense to use a tap to call button.
7. Avoid Overwhelming Pop Ups
We’ve all seen these websites with overwhelming pop ups.
I know what happens when I visit a site that get annoying.
We leave. How about you?
Do not piss your audience off with pop ups.
We know you want to capture email or give something away.
But be reasonable. Maybe add one in at the exit time frame.
What are your thoughts on pop ups?
Do us a favor and let us know in the comments section.
Another thing to avoid.
Do not use carousels and sliders.
They slow your site down and most people do not look at them.
What Are Your Tips ?

Commenting is also a great way to start building your brand.
One good website design tip we left out was leverage your social media.
Knowing when to add a share button or placing your social buttons in the right location.
I’m sure we all have an opinion on that subject.
Where do you place your social media buttons?
